CHAIRMAN’S REPORT

THE CRAVEN AND BEAMSLEY TRUSTS
April 2006 – March 2007

GLAD WE COULD HELP

Looking at the list of grants awarded for 2006-2007, I am pleased that we have been able to support projects aiming to:

  • Improve the quality of life of older people
  • Help children and families
  • Provide activities and opportunities for young people
  • Address community needs

Cricketers at Cowling Cowling Cricket Club

“You were the first to give us a grant.”

Sometimes we are the first to support a project, giving groups encouragement to continue fundraising. One of our trustees visited Cowling Cricket & Football Clubs to evaluate their application for a grant towards a new equipment store and scoreboard. He decided to recommend a grant towards this expenditure. This was their first success. They explained that their application had been turned down by Sport for All. His response was “I can’t see why – try again.” So they did, and this time their application was successful.

GOVERNMENT FUNDING OF CHARITIES

The reduction in Government funds to charities as a result of the London 2012 Olympics’ budget trebling to £9.3bn, and a diversion of national lottery cash to help to cover these increased costs, will not affect The Craven Trust as we do not receive any government funding at all, but rely on the generosity of our supporters. We expect more requests for grants from groups previously benefiting from Government grants.

A special thanks to the Friends, donors and supporters of our fundraising events who have enabled us to continue giving grants in The Craven Trust area.
