Dr. Brian Fisher

Brian FisherIn 1995, just after I retired as a G P in Skipton I was approached by Peter Marshall and Colin Reeder. Peter was concerned that there was no Charitable Trust which was local to the area of Craven. A meeting was held and it was decided to call this trust The Craven Trust. I was asked if I would be Chairman and acted in that position until 2000.

I remained as a Trustee, and continued trying to raise money for the Trust to enable us to provide more grant funding to local groups. We had been approached by Trustees of the Beamsley Hospital Trust, as their buildings had been handed over to the Landmark Trust. This Trust was now redundant and had considerable funds available, their Trustees wished to wind up the Trust. The Charity Commission was approached and eventually agreed that the Craven Trust could take over these funds. This we did and ran the two Trusts together.

When the Foot and Mouth epidemic hit Craven in 2000 we decided that we were in a position to set up a fund to raise money for people affected by this devastating problem. As acting Chairman of this fund for over 18 months we raised and distributed about one and a half million pounds, we also provided computers and training for many people in various farming and local trades.

For the last fourteen years I have continued as a Trustee, which I have found extremely interesting, meeting many people from all over the district.
